Leadership: objectives but also values

Comment on Paul Sloane blog on “Empower Your People” – leaders should set objectives then not micro-manage.  They should then use the time freed up to make sure that the objectives are well set and not too short term, and that the organisation’s values are well understood and embedded

A correction

I had informed members of Mayfield Business Forum earlier this week that credit unions were giving business loans and suggested the name of our local credit union.  But it turns out that this credit union is not offering business loans – yet.

So my latest pos on the MBF site apologises and sets the record straight.

MBG and Warners

As one of the senior partners at Mayfield Business Group (MBG), I am very pleased to announce the co-operation of MBG and Warners Solicitors.

This broadens the advice and help that we can provide by adding legal services to our wide range of management services.  More important to me is the fact that the two companies share the same philosophy of working with clients, which will enable us to offer valued, long-term help that leads to demonstrable improvements for clients.

Both companies believe that providing good services requires the commitment to spend time understanding client needs so that we offer advice that we will stand by and and are ready to help put into practice, if required.  We implement solutions that result in tangible improvements to customer performance and bottom line.

More details on MBG and Warners co-operation can be found in this blog post on the MBG website

Receptionist or ambassador

We all at times act as receptionists or ambassadors for our organisations – being the first point of contact whether for visitors are contacting us or when we go out to network or prospect.

In both cases, how we act is critical since we provide the first impressions on which the outsider will base much of the view of our organisation.  See the post on my marketing blog which discusses this in some more detail.

Porous to pitch or impermeable to message

How and when we say something is as important as what we say.  We need to set the right timing, tone, location and personalisation  for presenting a message if we want them to be “porous to pitch” to take in what we are saying.

Reality behind the “Social Media” hype

My latest Roger Stone Marketing blog can be found here.

It looks at what social media really means for most organisations who are not interested in all the hype that surrounds the latest versions of software and buzzwords, but just want to use the best new tools to promote their business
